FAQ: Chronic wasting disease in Montana

Chronic wasting disease is caused by misfolded proteins that cause neuropathy in cervids. White-tailed deer, mule deer, elk and moose can develop CWD, a form of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy that's related to Mad Cow Disease.
