Dead Space fans have been treated to a very early look at EA's highly anticipated remake of the sci-fi horror favourite as part of an "unorthodox" new livestream - and while the project is still "really, really far from being done", according to developer EA Motive, the included new footage and details might be enough to keep interest piqued until more is ready to be revealed.

EA Motive's decision to show off its Dead Space remake so early in development is, by its own admission, a "bit unorthodox" for EA, but it says it wants "to be open with the communication" in order gather feedback on the direction it's taking.

To that end, the developer has shared a few early details - and, in some cases, glimpses - of the remake, beginning with a look at its initial efforts to enhance the original Dead Space's visuals for the modern era. As shown during the livestream, this involved the art team revisiting the 2008 game's legacy assets, adding details to existing geometry, applying shaders, materials, and VFX, plus a first pass at lighting to get the mood right. The results, as you'll see if you hop through the livestream below, are certainly striking.

We'll get a "very early look" at the new Dead Space project tonight, developer Motive Studios has announced.

The action will take place over on Motive's Twitch, and is due to kick off at 6pm UK time (that's 1pm Eastern or 10am Pacific).

It's perhaps a little surprising to see Motive showing more of the project so soon after its announcement at the end of July, and with a fair while still to go (it can be reasonably assumed) until the project launches. But we won't say no.

Children in China will only be able to play online games for three hours in a typical week - an hour a day on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, between 8pm and 9pm.

This lone gaming hour will also be allowed on public holidays, The National Press and Publication Administration announced (thanks, BBC News).

These new curbs are the latest steps in the Chinese state's battle against online gaming, which has been dubbed "spiritual opium" for the country's youth.

There's nothing that quite defines fantasy vacations so much as the idea of a cross-country road trip with friends. One can picture it now: a beaten-up Volkswagen van, a few close friends, and nothing but conversation to pass your time cruising through the open road with the wind in your hair. According to research posted on the US-based National Centre for Biotechnology Information, out of the 91.2 percent of surveyed members had a bucket list, and a whopping 78.5 percent of them had a desire to travel in some form.

This should come as little surprise. Many consider traveling across the globe a luxury for those with the money and the time to do so, but it turns out that a rich lifestyle isn't the only way to experience the joys of a road trip with companions at your side. I've been traveling Europe with the aid of Euro Truck Simulator 2 and a multiplayer mod called TruckersMP. It's worth mentioning that both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator have now had multiplayer support added since July, which makes it a lot easier for everyone to get an online game, but the official Convoy multiplayer is an eight person affair. TruckersMP, while getting on a bit, is on a different scale.

Initially released on the 1st of May 2014, TruckersMP is a massively multiplayer mod for Euro Truck 2 that allows players to join one of several servers and travel Europe with thousands of other truckers. The mod makes a multitude of changes to allow for a streamlined multiplayer experience, including removing NPC drivers and putting speed-caps on certain servers. It also adds radio channels for voice chat and even its own radio station which the community runs.

The definition of gameplay is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. That's largely the case for me, at least. I play a lot of online competitive multiplayer (mainly Call of Duty and Rainbow Six Siege), and this year, I've even been jumping back into the Destiny grind now and again. The point is, I'm constantly running through the same environments, chasing the same objectives, using the same fairly small pool of weapons. Why am I not getting bored? Why am I actively enjoying it?

"With a game, there is always an element of novelty [...] you still have control over what happens so you can go this way, use this weapon. 'This time I'll try it this way around.' So there's an element of novelty, there's an element of direct influence in the situation so you've got that control, that sense of [...] I have control of the environment."

No More Heroes 3 review - Suda's series back at its wonky best

In one of the many, many, many fourth-wall breaking interludes in No More Heroes 3, series star Travis Touchdown guests on a TV show to discuss his deep love and appreciation for the work of Takashi Miike, Japanese cinema's most prolific, varied and plain wildest of directors. It's another self-indulgent pop culture reference in a series that's awash with them, but there's something different here - the sense that series creator Goichi Suda aligns himself somewhat with Miike.

It's something underlined when Travis goes into an extended rant about how a director like Miike - a man whose most notorious film has its opening title spelled out in a splash of semen - went on to create the idol series Girl x Heroines in order to strengthen his production crew. It's something Suda himself did with Travis Strikes Again, the stripped back spin-off he used to educate his young team before they set to work on a No More Heroes game proper.

I detested that particular game for leaning into the excesses of the series while lacking so much of its style, and yet here I am absolutely adoring No More Heroes 3. So what's changed? Well, it helps that this is a proper No More Heroes game, returning to the over-the-shoulder action that sees Travis scythe through small mobs and tackle screen-filling bosses. It's even more of a No More Heroes game than 2010's sequel, with the open world sections that were excised for No More Heroes 2 restored, and with some style too.

A new debate has erupted surrounding Steam's two-hour refund policy.

If you weren't aware, Steam offers a refund for all game purchases, no questions asked, as long as your playtime is less than two hours and it's within two weeks of purchase.

It's a ‌pro-consumer policy (or a cost-effective way to reduce the number of customer service staff, depending on who you ask), and the two-hour playtime threshold is intended to stop less trustworthy consumers from exploiting it.

Netflix adds first mobile games to streaming service in Poland-only test

True to its word, Netflix has added a first batch of mobile games to its streaming service, albeit as part of a Poland-only test to begin with.

Reports of Netflix's plans to enter the world of video games began to circulate in May, and the company finally made it official in July, saying it was "in the early stages of further expanding into games" and that it viewed gaming "as another new content category for us."

It also clarified it would initially focus on mobile games, with a later report suggesting the first batch of these titles would launch as part of Netflix's subscription service some time next year.

Square Enix's previously Switch-exclusive JRPG sequel Bravely Default 2 is making its way to Steam early next month, on 2nd September.

Bravely Default 2 - the follow-up to 3DS JRPGs Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer, which released in 2012 and 2015 respectively - launched on Switch back in February this year, charting the adventures of a new band of heroes on the continent of Excillant.

Its story begins when young sailor Seth washes onto the shores of one of the continent's five regions. He eventually joins forces with Gloria - a princess forced to flee her own kingdom - alongside travelling scholar Elvis and the mercenary Adelle, for a familiar blend of narrative-driven exploration and turn-based combat built around the series' Brave/Default mechanic, which essentially lets players strategically bank turns to unleash in one massive blast later on.

Elite developer Frontier is publishing Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters on PC in 2022. It's a turn-based tactical RPG that sees the player lead the Grey Knights, one of the most secret chapters of Space Marines from the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Following reports back in July that open-world zombies-and-parkour survival hit Dying Light would be making its way to Switch, developer Techland has now made it official.

Dying Light has been a massive success for Techland - the developer says the game has now been played by over 20 million players since its launch back in 2015 - and it's received an absolute stack of DLC, both free and paid, over the years as a result (and, of course, a sequel is due on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox this December).

All that DLC was bundled together for a special Platinum Edition of Dying Light on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox earlier in 2021, and it's this version that's now been confirmed to be making its way to Switch at some currently undisclosed future point.

Absolver studio's martial arts adventure Sifu gets February 2022 release date

Sifu, the martial arts adventure from Absolver developer Sloclap, finally has a release date and will release for PlayStation and PC on 22nd February next year.

Sifu is a a third-person, single-player action game, focussed on "intense hand-to-hand combat", that follows a young Kung Fu student on a path of revenge as he hunts down his family's murderers with nothing but a mysterious pendant and, possibly, the ability to palm-smash someone's nose out the back of their head.

Actually that's not quite true; as players make their way through Sifu's world - "from the gang-ridden suburbs to the cold hallways of the corporate towers" - they're encouraged to use everything at their disposal to overcome the odds and hunt down their targets, whether that be throwable objects or makeshift weapons strewn around the environment.

Sci-fi exploration adventure Jett: The Far Shore - a collaboration between Pine Scented Software and Superbrothers (the creators of acclaimed 2011 indie hit Sword & Sworcery) - now has a release date and will be making its way to PC and PlayStation on 5th October.

Announced last summer, the moodily atmospheric Jett casts players as scout and 'anchorite' Mei as she becomes the first person to explore a mythic ocean planet in order to "carve out a future for a people haunted by oblivion" and search for something called "the hymnwave".

"Skim low over waves, roar up pristine coastlines and carve through otherworldly woods," teases the developers. "Adapt to an intricate, systemic open world and persevere through adversity alongside an intimate ensemble cast in this story of courage, wonder and regret."
